All the Small Things: Christmas Day

My usual last minute wrapping: when all you have is brown and white paper and an old Pritt Stick, the situation calls for emergency snowflakes

This year I fancied a change from mince pies, so I made these gingerbread cupcakes with lemon buttercream frosting. I found the cupcake recipe here and the frosting recipe here.

Rounding off the day with an enormous box of Thornton's (and a sugar-induced coma)

Bright Christmas

Having moved to Australia over a year ago, I have finally managed to haul myself back to good old Blighty for a much missed winter Christmas with friends and family. On arrival I was greeted by an all too familiar grey sky and bitterly cold air, but one thing I love about Christmas is that it injects some much needed colour into all the dreariness. So today, in a moment of festive inspiration (and, admittedly, boredom), I toddled off into my parents' front garden armed with secateurs and put together the simplest little display of wintry foliage and bright berries in an old jar I found in the cupboard.  Add some old string that was hiding in the garage and voila: a whole load of nothing turns into Yuletide loveliness.
